Early Friday morning, Russia launched its first major wave of cruise missile strikes against Ukraine since early March 2023.

Although Ukraine shot down most of the missiles, at least 25 civilians were killed, 23 in Uman and two in Donetsk.

A search and rescue operation in the Ukrainian city of Uman ended on Saturday after a deadly rocket attack on a residential building, the regional emergency services and the Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine, Ihor Klymenko, said.

Ukrainians in the center of Uman erected an improvised memorial to the victims of the Russian missile attack on a residential building on Friday, CNN reports.

A CNN camera crew at the scene Saturday saw family members waiting for news of their loved ones, including a woman holding a teddy bear. Residents left flowers and stuffed animals at the memorial; others brought photographs.
