
Iryna Begu continues her excellent performance at the “WTA 1000” tournament in Madrid: our athlete reached the 1/8 finals after defeating Shelby Rogers on Saturday.

Favorite 31 at Caja Magica, Iryna defeated the American Rogers (38 WTA) in two sets, score 7-5, 6-2. The game lasted one hour and 52 minutes.
The match was interrupted by rain with Begu leading 4-2 in the second set, but the Romanian remained focused and won the next few games after returning to the court.

- Iryna will fight for a place in the quarters with the winner of the match between Russian Lyudmila Samsonova (18 WTA, 14th favorite) and Latvian Jelena Ostapenko (22 WTA, 19th favorite and Roland Garros-2017 champion).
