Due to the actions of the United States, Russia may withdraw from the moratorium on the deployment of short- and medium-range missiles, the TASS news agency reported on Tuesday with reference to a high-ranking Russian diplomat, Reuters reports.

Volodymyr Yermakov, in charge of nuclear non-proliferation at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, told a state news agency that Moscow would assess the range of American-made missiles, which he said could reach the Asia-Pacific region.

“But we can already confidently say that the destabilizing military programs of the US and its allies are making our moratorium increasingly fragile – both in the Asia-Pacific region and in Europe,” Yermakov said.

According to him, Russia’s willingness to continue to observe the moratorium on the deployment of medium- and short-range ground-based missiles in certain regions “will fundamentally depend on the specific parameters of the missiles’ flight range.” [SUA]CNN reports.

The United States withdrew from the Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces Treaty with Russia in 2019.
