President Joe Biden has tapped Julie Chavez Rodriguez, a White House senior adviser and deputy campaign manager for his 2020 presidential campaign, to be his 2024 presidential campaign manager, Reuters reported on Monday, a source familiar with the matter said.

Rodriguez, who is now director of the White House Office of Intergovernmental Affairs, accepted the offer.

Democrat Joe Biden said he intends to run for re-election and may make an official statement about it as early as Tuesday.

The 80-year-old US president is preparing for a difficult campaign. His team is eyeing Wilmington, Delaware, where Joe Biden lives, as a campaign base.

Joe Biden was considering at least three people for the role, according to Democratic sources familiar with the discussions.

Rodriguez’s election can be considered a kind of victory for Vice President Kamala Harris, who during her tenure tried to win over the Washington establishment. Rodriguez was a senior adviser to Senator Harris’ 2020 presidential campaign and previously worked in her Senate office.

Joe Biden is expected to retain a circle of close advisers in the White House even if he runs for re-election. His former campaign manager, Jen O’Malley Dillon, is now White House deputy chief of staff.
