Elsa Silberstein to play Simone de Beauvoir in new film

Elsa Silberstein will play Simone de Beauvoir, a French feminist writer, in the feature film.

The screenplay will be written by Oscar-winning screenwriter Christopher Hampton and directed by Anne Fontaine.

Silberstein’s Sonia Films will produce the film with [email protected] Philippe Carcassonne and Master Movie by Marco and Lola Paccioni.

According to Variety, the film will revolve around the passionate transatlantic romance between de Beauvoir and Pulitzer Prize-winning writer Nelson Algrin.

Elsa Silberstein acquired the film rights to Simone de Beauvoir’s Lettres à Nelson Algren from Gallimard.

Through letters, the film follows the couple’s relationship that spanned nearly two decades from 1947, after World War II, until 1964. Two-thirds of the film will take place in Chicago while the rest of the story unfolds. in Paris.

“I was struck by the beauty of these letters and this relationship, which began in the most unexpected way after Simone de Beauvoir left for Chicago for two days,” said the French actress.
