In 2015, two neighbors of Syngrou Avenue, Roof And Panteion University, decided to destroy the distance between them, literally and figuratively, with the help of concert series Why did the two institutions come together?
That’s how he was born “Musical Bridge over the Syngrow”. A collaboration that aims to bring Stegi’s music to the Panteillon University, as well as to introduce students to what it means to organize a concert. Since then, every year a select group of students from Department of Communications, Media and Culture learns from a series of meetings/workshops to then organize and promote each series of contemporary music concerts that take place both in university as well as her Roof and which also serve as an introduction to young musicians who are in the early stages of their careers.
“Musical Bridge” is preparing to “build up” this year for eighth year, with three concerts to be held in small stage stegi Wednesday, May 10 and dedicated to the French composer Maurice Ohana. An “explorer” of sounds and places, every place he went during his life was an inspiration for his own work. Was born in Casablanca, from parents Spanish And Jew origin and during the Second World War, he entered the service in British colonies her Africa, where he discovered the rhythmic richness of the region’s traditional music.
The reason for the dedication called “Geography, Friendship, Links” had a double anniversary: anniversary 110 years from birth and thirty after the death of Maurice Ohan. As noted Lorenda Ramu, responsible for the program all these years, but also a deputy professor at the University of Ioannina, who was also fortunate enough to study with him while studying in France, the composer’s work has its own characteristics: “This is not what we say, Central European music, this is not European avant-garde, it is something more “southern”. It is a separate universe that reaches even the aesthetic opposites of the avant-garde.”

As for what we’ll be hearing on the Small Roof Stage this year, to honor all of the composer’s musical roots. Not only with his own works, but with a program composed of several others to create a universe of Mediterranean and African music to become discovery of his diverse musical world, which is also the aim of The Bridge this year.
Maurice Oanas may be a creator not particularly famous in Greece, but nevertheless, there are many familiar moments in his work. First, Oana really liked the musical association. with myths and primitive elements, something that in Greece we can understand well. Moreover, “There was plasticity in the rhythm, a creeping melody and something sensual, a love for sound and the musical phenomenon itself. That is, this is not the music that is written with some other structure and logic under it, this is music that cannot be analyzed in Western European terms, ”she explains to“ K ”. Lorenda Ramu, about the composer, in whose work you can find elements from flamenco to jazz. Music that finally “draws you to listen to it and listen to it again.”

One of the most interesting aspects of the Syngro Music Bridge is that participating students have the opportunity to get acquainted with the work of musicians which otherwise they might not recognize, and discover hitherto unknown sound worlds. Conveying the atmosphere, the program manager says that when listening to Oanas’ music, the students reacted positively, recognizing familiar elements in this “new” music for them.
However, as a rule, organizing a series of concerts with inexperienced students who are asked to manage their organization and promotion at each stage, given what they study in a semester, is a big gamble. Nevertheless, every year Gefira takes care of come back and develop in your methodology. As Lorenda Ramu admits, every time she goes to a concert she feels a great sense of satisfaction, replaced by a student from groups of previous years. The final bet, after all, is that students manage to develop a closer relationship with music and leave this seminar with more open ears.

And the “Music Bridge over the Syngrou” can cover long distances in the future. In addition, in March it rose to Thessaloniki, for the presentation of the program, but also for the concert that gave the first glimpse of Maurice Oanas in Stegi. It was an offer from Department of Music Studies And Workshop of Contemporary Music from AUTHORIZATION and at the same time a trigger for the possible launch of the corresponding program on AUTH.
Indeed, the Bridge seems to be ready to overcome new distances, in new directions. It’s no coincidence, the musicians of this year’s program were photographed against the backdrop of the bridges.
Three concerts “Musical bridge over Syngrou”, Vol. 8″, dedicated to Maurice Oanas, will take place on Wednesday, May 10, on the Small Stage of the Roof at 20:00. Admission is free with tickets.
