The ABBA guitarist has died at the age of 70 after battling cancer. Lasse Welander (Lasse Wellander)
The Swedish musician passed away on Friday, and his family broke the sad news a few hours ago.
“Lasse recently fell ill, and it turned out that he had cancer with metastases. On Good Friday [των Καθολικών] he passed away with his loved ones by his side. You were an amazing musician and modest like few, but most of all you were a wonderful husband, father, brother, uncle and grandfather. Kind, caring, loving and full of love… And much more,” his family said in a Facebook post.
Belander started playing guitar as a child in the 60s in his hometown of Nora, Sweden.
In October 1974, he began recording with ABBA and was featured on such hits as “Intermezzo No.1” and “Crazy World”. He then joined the band regularly and toured from 1975 to 1980.
In 2007, he participated in the recording of the soundtrack for the film Mamma Mia at a studio in Sweden.
He has seven solo albums, two of which were hits in the 1980s, and released several singles in 2022.
