THE EPZ (Low Emission Zones) is a new measure that aims to exclude motorists with the oldest vehicles from the urban centers of France’s major cities, as they are considered to be more polluters.

Like any measure aimed at brand the humblest FrenchEPZs are far from unanimous, and today they are at the center of debate. Indeed, the ZFE will ban, in the short term, no less than 40% of cars currently in circulation: vehicles with Crit’air 3, 4, 5 and unclassified stickers will be banned from driving in around forty French agglomerations by 2025. .

EPZ: The French are less and less favorable

For the second year in a row, the CSA research institute polled 10,000 French people on the subject of ZFE: compared to last year, the French are better informed about ZFE, as 51% now know the definition. However, only 37% say they are sufficiently informed about this issue.

While motorists are better informed in France’s largest cities (60% in Paris, 70% in Lyon and 56% in Grenoble), only 36% of French people were able to associate their car with the correct Crit’ sticker. this figure increased by 7 points compared to last year.

The more the French know about EPZs, the stronger their opinion is: indeed, 49% of motorists concerned about the ZFE oppose the measure, up to 62% among owners of Crit’air 4, 5 or unclassified vehicles. In summary, only 51% of French people support ZEP, which is 6 points less than last year.

EPZ: what do the French think of them?

The implementation of SEZs is becoming widespread across the country: but what do the main stakeholders think? 36% of them would like to keep using their car even if it means a fine for 17% of them. On the other hand, 33% plan to part with their vehicle to switch to alternative solutions: public transport (24%), carpooling or carpooling (9%), while 20% of French affected by ZFE are ready drive without a car. car.

Only 17% of respondents said they intend to purchase an EPZ-compliant vehicle. But the problem of PPE emphasizes primarily on inequalities between the French : in fact, 36% of motorists affected by the ZFE driving ban cannot afford to buy another car.

This disparity is even greater if motorists own the oldest vehicles: in fact, owners of Crit’air 4, 5 and unclassified models make up 41% of those who do not have the budget to buy a new car, new or used.
