David Popovichi won the 400 meters freestyle – he defeated Vlad Stanka

David Popovici wins medal after medal at the National Swimming Championships in Otopeni, while the CS Dinamo Bucharest-registered athlete also won the 400m freestyle.

In this test, David Popovici finished ahead of Vlad Stanka, managing to finish in 3:51.18 minutes.

The podium was completed by Vlad Stanka (3:52.45 minutes), who won silver, and Nandor Nagy (4:01.39 minutes).

Initially, David Popovich entered the final with the second time, but the 18-year-old athlete made a great comeback, outclassing his opponents.

At the National Swimming Championships in Otopeni this week, David also won gold in the 50m freestyle, 100m backstroke and 50m butterfly (he broke the national record in that event).

It happened 49 years ago, and the person celebrating this feat is called Jim Montgomery (USA – he is now 67 years old). That year, the competition was hosted by Belgrade.
