Due to the increase in the flow of tourists, in connection with the celebration of Easter, the Greek police until April 23 introduced enhanced measures throughout the country’s road network in order to ensure the safe movement of citizens and prevent road accidents.

According to the relevant announcement, the planning of activities carried out on the basis of the Greek Police Headquarters Strategic Planning for Easter includes:

• control of the road network by sector, based on the specific traffic conditions in each region,
• increased police presence and increased security of sections of the road network where there are frequent traffic accidents,
• traffic measures have been strengthened at the entrances and exits of large urban centers, where there is a large flow of vehicles,
• regulation of pedestrian traffic at key intersections to avoid traffic congestion,
• strengthening transport measures in places where there is a mass passenger flow (airports, ports, stations, etc.),
• organization of traffic in the venues of festive events,
• the presence of traffic controllers at toll booths in the country to facilitate traffic,
• informing and advising drivers and passengers
• informing citizens through the press services in all cases when there is a need to widely inform the public about the presence of transport and other problems.

At the same time, throughout the implementation of the measures, both the personnel and the means of the Greek police, mainly the Traffic Police Service, will be on high operational readiness. In particular, patrol cars, motorcycles and ordinary vehicles with appropriate personnel and equipment will be provided to effectively guard the country’s road network.

Ban on the movement of trucks over 3.5 tons

In addition to the above measures, and for the safer movement of vehicles and improved traffic during the Easter period, in addition to the traffic facilitation measures to be taken locally, there will be a ban on the movement of light trucks with a maximum permissible weight of more than 3.5 tons. .

Specifically for outbound traffic, the traffic ban for trucks will be in effect from Maundy Thursday (13.04) from 15:00 to 22:00 and from Good Friday (14.04) from 6:00 to 16:00:00.

For input current, the ban will be in effect from Monday (17.04) from 12:00 to 22:00, and on Tuesday (18.04) from 11:00 to 23:00.

At the same time, the Greek police recommend citizens:

• Before traveling, they should carry out a technical check of their vehicle and receive information about the state of the road network and weather conditions.
• Be especially careful while driving and follow the rules of the road.
• Obey the road markings and follow the instructions of the traffic controllers.
• Do not use mobile phones or other distracting devices while driving.
• Do not drink alcoholic beverages if they are going to drive.
• Use child seats to protect children in the car.
• They must be “fastened” with seat belts, like helmets on motorcycles.
• Use anti-skid chains where there are special driving conditions (frost, etc.).
• Do not overestimate your driving skills and the technical capabilities of your vehicles.
• Respect and protect other passengers and other people who use the road network by operating your vehicle responsibly and with care.
