Serious incidents occurred at noon on Wednesday outside The University of Economics (former ACOEE), on Patishen Street. Group ok. 35 people he set up tanks as barricades and set fire to some of them.

More precisely, it all happened when stones were thrown at a passing police car. Then one of the cops on board he took out his gun and fired three times in the air for intimidation.

The one in question the policeman was arrested, but – according to ERT – he was released. A corresponding criminal case was filed against him by the Attica Security Directorate.

“Today, Wednesday, April 5, 2023, at around 12:10, a group of about 35 people left the Athens University of Economics and Business and set fire to the garbage cans that they were using as a roadblock along with other facilities.

At approximately 12:30 p.m., when a clear order was given from the Emergency Center that patrol vehicles should not pass through the area, an immediate action vehicle with a crew of three police officers was attacked by the aforementioned persons with stones, fragments and other objects, which led to to vehicle damage.

Two police officers were immediately pulled out of the car, but the third was trapped and used his service weapon, throwing it into the air.

The policeman who shot him was arrested and the Attica Security Directorate opened a criminal case against him. By order of the Chief of the Hellenic Police, disciplinary investigation procedures for the incident are immediately initiated, while at the same time, the possibility of applying an administrative preventive measure against the police officers involved is being considered.”

It should be noted that the situation gradually de-escalated, and shortly before 14:00, traffic along Patision Street was restored.
