“The child had bed apnea and the mother had just come in and told us that the pulse oximeter was not working,” pediatrician Aglaya Karkania, her testimony specialist at the Joint Jury, said of how Rula Pispirigou notified the doctors when on Sunday, April 11, 2021, the child had a seizure at the Karamananeyo Hospital in Patras.

A doctor involved in Georgina’s dramatic resuscitation said she did not expect such a reaction from her mother: “She just came and told us that the pulse oximeter was not working. Usually, when your child does not respond, you shake him, shout. I didn’t expect such a reaction.”

A few days before the arrest, the witness accompanied Georgina to the Agios Andreas hospital in Patras to undergo a magnetic resonance imaging of the brain, which did not show anything alarming.

“On Sunday afternoon, my mother came and knocked on the door of the doctors office. I opened it for her. I saw her say, “Something is wrong with the pulse oximeter, it does not show any readings,” something like that. I started to leave and Mrs. Dimitropoulou also came. At 2-3 meters we saw a nurse outside the room, who was shouting: “Go faster, the child is not responding.” We ran into the room. The child did not react to any stimuli, he had no pulse in the middle of the bed. We immediately started resuscitation. It was also very stressful for us. I remember Mrs. Dimitropoulou asking Mother how we got to this point.

We were injected with adrenaline, chest compressions and Amba (inhalations). Mrs. Stogiannidou called the anesthesiologist. After difficult and traumatic efforts, we succeeded, and the child survived. She was taken to the intensive care unit, ”a witness testified about the incident, as a result of which Georgina became paralyzed and is now accused of attempted murder of her mother.
