Today, Thursday, March 23, by decision of the Coordinating Committee of Students of the Theater School, Chiller’s class ended. This event is a trigger for the immediate resumption of performances and the smooth resumption of administrative and technical work in the Chiller building.
The days and times of the resumption of performances have already been announced.
Despite the fact that the suspension of activities was painful, the National Theater respects (as it was repeatedly formulated in its public statements of 12/28/2022, 02/09/2023 and 02/24/2023) fair requests for the evaluation of arts education, and will continue to programmatically contribute necessary institutional consultations for its legalization. At the same time, we call on the competent authorities to consider any reasonable request that can improve the conditions of study and to provide support to students. On these issues, the dialogue will be continued with the student association of the Drama School of the National Theatre.
At the same time, contrary to the decisions of the student coordinating bodies that led to the approval of the seizure of the Drama School building and Chiller, the continued occupation of the REX building by persons who are not in any way related to the National Theater has neither moral legitimation nor practical effectiveness for approving the requirements artistic community. We firmly believe that an open National Theater is the only way to continue to fulfill our cultural mission and to contribute to the success of these requests.
We call on those who remained in the REX building to immediately resolve the issue of occupation and hand over the building to the leaders of the National Theater on Monday, March 27 at 08:00. In any other case, the Theater Directorate will be forced to stop the administrative support of the building (including the withdrawal of security personnel) and take any other necessary legal actions to return the building to its intended use.
