In a letter addressed to Marton Vagy (MLSZ General Secretary), Theodor Theodoridis, who holds the same position at UEFA, stated that the request submitted by the Hungarians had not been approved. In addition, he warned that sanctions will be applied for the placement of the specified symbols in stadiums.

“Dear Mr. Vagi,

Regarding our previous correspondence of 20 March 2023 regarding the use of flags or banners with symbols such as “Historical Hungary” and “Greater Hungary” at UEFA matches.

To our great surprise, we have learned of the existence of several news reports representing UEFA’s agreement to use these flags and banners in the competitions they organize.

For the avoidance of doubt, we would like to clarify that UEFA has not approved the placement of such flags and banners. Also, as I mentioned in a previous letter, the presence of such banners may result in disciplinary consequences. We therefore strongly recommend that you take the necessary steps to prevent the display of these flags or banners at any match organized by UEFA.

Finally, as I mentioned in my previous letter, independent disciplinary bodies will assess and impose any sanctions in accordance with UEFA rules.

Sincerely, Theodor Theodoridis, UEFA Secretary General,” the letter from UEFA reads, PlaySport reports.
