Petrolul Ploieşti announced on Wednesday that it has entered a new era: Marian Kopilu, former president of CFR Cluj and Universitatea Craiova, will take the same position in the management of the Prague group.

In addition to the executive role, Copilu (multi-time Romanian CFR champion) will also be an investor. The announcement comes at a delicate time for Petrolul, which is facing financial problems.

“The most beloved club of the residents of Prahoven, Petrolul Ploiești, is facing a new beginning. At yesterday’s meeting, March 21, the general assembly of the ACS Petrolul 52 Association recorded the departure of the founding members, Mr. Mirci Drydea, Gheorghe Liliac, Octavian Grigore, Haralambi Ion, Deku Krangasa, Ion Kojokar, Constantin Stefan and Paul Gouche, from the Association, without any what are the grounds for claims on their part.

Thus, the former legendary players of “Petrol”, those who in 2016 made a decisive contribution to the revival of the club and in the following years made considerable efforts to keep the “yellow and blue” fire from burning, have now taken a step behind. We thank them for everything they have achieved for this club, for the pages written in the Petrolul history book, and from now on they will definitely be part of the Petrolul Ploiești family!

At the same time, Mr. Marian Kopilu was granted the status of an associate member, being at the same time the president of ACS Petrolul 52. In addition, Mr. Mircea Drydea will be the honorary president, Mr. Claudio Tudor will act as the president of the Management Committee of ACS Petrolul 52, and otherwise the management structure of the club will remain unchanged.” – Nafta Ploiesti on Facebook.

Petrolul Ploiesti are second in the Superliga play-offs with 21 points (five above Chindia Tirgovishte, the top-placed team and leading to the Superliga promotion/relegation barrier).
