Open conflict between Mayor of Alimos and a certain businessman who runs a restaurant on the beach in the area happened yesterday. Mayor Andreas Kondylis with the compressor, he himself began to remove the tiles from the restaurant’s parking lot, as, as he emphasizes, the business encroached on the public space that it uses without even paying the appropriate fees. The municipal council, by its decision of March 6, allowed aesthetic improvement work to be carried out in a certain area in front of the restaurant, as well as in the side part between the shop and the beach line.

According to the decision of the municipal council, the interventions made on the territory “change the natural environment, impede the public’s access to and use of this territory and violate the goal of the common use of the common territory by all.” citizens. At the same time, they worsen the image and functionality of public municipal lands.”

In the specific area where the car park is now, the municipality has planned the creation of flowerbeds and landscaping, as well as the installation of urban equipment. Also on the site between the business and the beach, according to the technical report of the municipality services, on the part of Alimos beach, which is a common area, it is planned to create a simple metal fence.

In an interview with K, Andreas Kondylis said that a certain businessman rented 670 sq.m. on the beach of the municipality, but has expanded three times in area.

For its part, the owner company filed injunctions to stop the municipality from working on the site, but these were debated on March 13 and rejected on the grounds that “it is unlikely that the rights (of the appellant company) to the disputed site.”

Mister. Andreas Kondylis underlines in “K” that this particular company rented 670 square meters from the municipality, but expanded and illegally used 1,880 square meters of public space. As the mayor notes, despite the fact that the municipality has issued the appropriate permit for the work, “the police are called every day. The workers are taken to the police station to file a complaint, as a result of which the work cannot be done.”

Yesterday, when the police reappeared, the mayor and municipal authorities set about continuing the work. A company lawyer, however, said the same premises had been used by the company for 20 years and attributed the mayor’s actions to his attempt to favor another professional in the field.

Mayor Andreas Kondylis replies that the particular businessman does not show any intention to comply with the requirements of the legislation and expands at will in the general area. In fact, he notes that the municipality has removed tables from common areas many times, only to have them replaced.

It is noted that the businessman in question is the owner of 35 restaurants in 13 municipalities of Attica, in “special places” such as Plaka, Acropolis, Pillars of Olympian Zeus, Panathinaikos Stadium. According to reliable information, specific lands were provided under agreements with municipalities and the region, which the owner won at international tenders.
