The Artemis 1 unmanned mission, the first launch of the new Orion spacecraft near the surface of the moon, was successfully completed last December. Moving at a speed of 8,163 km / h, Orion passed 130 km from the surface of the Earth’s satellite.
NASA and the Canadian Space Agency plan to announce four astronauts selected to travel early next year to the moon and back to Earth as part of the Artemis 2 program.
If this mission is successful, it will pave the way for Artemis 3, a mission to the lunar surface – the moon’s first truly south pole – probably in 2025.
As part of the ambitious Artemis program, the first woman and the first non-white person are expected to go to the moon.
