NASA: new spacesuits for astronauts who will go to the moon

A new generation of space suits for the astronauts of the Artemis mission who will return to moon surface after a few years, introduced yesterday, Wednesday NASA.

Unlike the puffy white suits worn by Neil Armstrong and his fellow travelers on the historic Apollo mission half a century ago, the new suits are more suited to women.

“NASA’s partnership with Axiom is critical to landing astronauts on the moon and maintaining America’s leadership in space. Based on years of NASA research and experience, the next-generation Axiom suits will not only enable the first woman to walk on the moon, but will enable more people than ever to explore and explore on the moon,” he said. space agency administrator Bill Nelson;

The Artemis 1 unmanned mission, the first launch of the new Orion spacecraft near the surface of the moon, was successfully completed last December. Moving at a speed of 8,163 km / h, Orion passed 130 km from the surface of the Earth’s satellite.

NASA and the Canadian Space Agency plan to announce four astronauts selected to travel early next year to the moon and back to Earth as part of the Artemis 2 program.

If this mission is successful, it will pave the way for Artemis 3, a mission to the lunar surface – the moon’s first truly south pole – probably in 2025.

As part of the ambitious Artemis program, the first woman and the first non-white person are expected to go to the moon. NASA plans to maintain a permanent astronaut presence on the Moon, including building a space station in orbit around an Earth satellite. For the US space agency, it will be the springboard for the first mission to the planet Mars.
