In the press release of ANABI, it is noted that “an insurance arrest was imposed on materials with extraneous features, in which investigations are conducted into the commission of the crimes of creating an organized criminal group, robbery, theft, fraud with particularly serious consequences and money laundering.”
According to DIICOT, in the period 2020-2022, this group, created in the city of Rymnik-Vilča on the basis of family relations between its members, was involved in the territory of the United States of America in dozens of crimes of “theft by distraction” in causing harm to some American citizens, as usually to elderly people who have been robbed of the jewelry they were wearing or various amounts of money they had with them. If the elders retaliated, they were forcibly stripped of the values they held.
The investigation claims that members of this group transported part of the stolen jewelry worth about 120,000 dollars from the USA to Romania. To launder the ill-gotten gains, they purchased gold bars and coins worth approximately $732,000, as well as luxury cars worth hundreds of thousands of dollars.
