Joe Biden, who has made reducing drug prices one of his main projects, on Wednesday renewed his attacks on big pharmaceutical companies and “exorbitant profits (obtained) at the expense of the American people,” writes AFP.

“I have no problem with companies making reasonable profits, but for God’s sake not at the expense of working families and seniors,” the US president said in Las Vegas.

The 80-year-old Democrat, who appears to have already launched the 2024 campaign, came out to tout his record on lowering drug prices and his plans on the issue, hoping to appeal to older, white voters who vote heavily on the right.

He recalled that on his initiative, the price of insulin was capped at $35 per month for people over 65 who are registered in the state health insurance system Medicare.

The US president promised to extend this limit to all diabetics, regardless of age, “including the 200,000 children who have type 1 diabetes and need insulin every day to survive.”

Joe Biden also welcomed the recent decision by two manufacturers, Eli Lilly and Novo Nordisk, to dramatically lower the prices of their insulin in the US.

“Americans pay more for prescription drugs than any other industrialized country in the world. Tell me the medicine you need to take, I will take you to France and it will cost you much less,” he declared.

Joe Biden said his budget proposal, presented last week and full of social promises, “contains measures (…) so that at the end of the month there is something left for those who have worked all their lives.”

The Democrat used the opportunity to criticize Republicans who control the House of Representatives and will block his most aggressive budget measures, including those aimed at raising taxes on the wealthiest.

Conservatives “have very different values,” he attacked.

Joe Biden has accused the most radical Republicans of wanting to bury the Affordable Care Act, also known as “Obamacare,” in honor of President Barack Obama, who negotiated it.
