Ron Bata, nicknamed “Wolverine”, became the first heavyweight champion of the slap competition organized by UFC president Dana White.

Darius Mata-Varona, Bata’s opponent, was knocked out after the first blow. The vanquished could barely stand on his feet after receiving a terrible blow, but wanted to continue the dispute. The referee did not allow it, and the match ended faster than expected.

Fierce slapping competitions, which have become widespread around the world, including in Romania, have led some fans of contact sports to strongly criticize the organization of these competitions.

“Cruel!”, “This shouldn’t happen”, “I don’t understand how this can be considered a safe sport”, “What madness”, “The worst thing invented in the last century”, “Disgusting”, “The soul comes out from the body” or “Someone will soon die at such contests” – these are just some of the reactions.
