
February brought the country temperatures of -31°C at the start and +23°C at the end of the month, with rainfall records broken at several weather stations, including Stâna de Vale, the country’s rainiest and snowiest area. There were also heat records.
According to ANM data, the average temperature in February 2023 ranged from -10.2 °C at the meteorological station Vf.Omu to 4.8 °C at the Calafat and Drobeta-Turnu Severin stations.
In February 2023, an excess of the monthly absolute maximum temperature was recorded at two weather stations, the monthly amount of precipitation, absolute maximum, at one weather station and the amount of precipitation that fell in 24 hours, absolute maximum, at 4 weather stations.
In Stolnich (Arjesh district) it was +21.4 C, breaking the 21-year-old record. It was +8 C at the Țarcu high-altitude weather station, breaking the record set in February 1990.
Regarding rainfall records, it is worth mentioning that in Stana de Vallée the total monthly rainfall was 278.2 mm, surpassing the record set in 2020. The record of 1958 was exceeded in the Gurakhonts commune in Arad.
The highest average temperature values of more than 4 °C were recorded in the south of Muntenia, in the south, south-west and, separately, in the center of Oltenia, as well as in the south of the coast. In most mountainous areas, the average temperature ranged from -6 to -2 °C, and at altitudes above 2,000 m it was below -6 °C.
The deviation of the average air temperature in February 2023 compared to the median of the standard reference interval (1991-2020) was positive in large areas of Moldova, Oltenia, Muntenia, Dobrudja and the Danube Delta, and only in mountainous areas. The largest value of positive deviation was recorded at the Zimnica weather station, 2.8 °C.
The total amount of precipitation in February 2023 in most of the country was less than 50 mm. The most precipitation for this month was recorded at the Stâna de Vale weather station, namely 278.2 mm, which exceeds the absolute monthly precipitation (274.4 mm) recorded in February 2020.
The highest rainfall recorded in 24 hours was 52.0 mm at the Kalimani weather station and this value is a new record for the station for the month of February. The lowest monthly amount of precipitation in February 2023 was 0.5 mm at the Titu weather station.
The deviation of the amount of precipitation in February 2023 from the median of the standard interval (1991-2020), calculated as a percentage, was negative in most of the country. The highest value of negative deviation was 97.7% at the Titu weather station.
Positive deviations were registered in Transylvania, Maramures, Banat, Crisan and in the northern part of Moldova. They exceeded 100% at more than 30 weather stations, the highest value was recorded at the Kuntu weather station, where precipitation fell almost four times more than normal.
The precipitation regime was deficient and very deficient in Dobrudja, most of Muntenia, eastern Oltenia, the southern half of Moldova and isolated in the extreme west of Banat and Brasov depression.
