Regarding the critical issue of the safety of NHS doctors in the performance of their functions, the Medical Association of Athens sent a letter to the respective Ministers of Health and Citizens Protection, Mr. Pleuris and Mr. Theodorikakos, requesting that all measures be taken. necessary legislative initiative to establish security measures. It is noted that ISA has taken similar actions in the past.

“NSH doctors in adverse conditions are fighting for the patient and the healthcare system. Legislative initiatives must be taken so that doctors can carry out their work safely and securely,” emphasized ISA President G. Patulis.

Specifically, the ISA letter to the relevant ministers reads as follows:

“The Board of Directors of the Medical Association of Athens raised this issue back in May 2016 in connection with the incident. At that time, he sent a letter to the minister, Mr. A. Xanthos, asking him, as the relevant minister, to immediately take concrete measures to tighten the system of safety and security of the workplaces of doctors who selflessly provide their services. . Unfortunately, the facts of beatings, insults, threats and other forms of ill-treatment of medical personnel, especially on duty days, have become more frequent, taking the form of an epidemic. Workplace safety in a public hospital or other public health facility is a primary responsibility of the state. Physicians need to feel protected and safe in the performance of their duties.”
