The Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration, Niku Popescu, responded to the reaction of Moscow, which criticized the vote of the parliament in Chisinau regarding the exclusion of the phrase “Moldovan language” from all legislation of the Republic of Moldova, stating that this decision belongs exclusively to Chisinau, and no one from outside has the right to challenge it. descire.md reports.

The draft law on replacing the phrase “Moldovan language” with “Romanian language” in all legislation of the Republic of Moldova, including the Constitution, was voted on Thursday in the first reading at the scandalous session of the parliament in Chisinau, writes desdechi.md. Deputies of the Bloc of Communists and Socialists (BKS) tried to block the project and confronted PAS deputies on the podium, shouting “Moldova” and “Let’s provide.”

During the debate on the draft law, several deputies of the Bloc of Communists and Socialists came to the rostrum of the parliament with placards on which were written messages such as “Moldova, Moldovans, Moldovans” or “Do not mock the Constitution.”

Immediately, several PAS deputies tore down and crumpled the posters, and a quarrel broke out between them and their colleagues from the BKS faction. Several fights followed, during which the socialist and communist deputies started chanting “Moldova” and “Let’s provide,” desdechi.md writes.

Romanian is the official state language of the Republic of Moldova

The draft law on replacing the term “Moldovan language” with “Romanian language” in all legislation of the Republic of Moldova, including the Constitution, was finally voted in the first reading, reports deschide.md. The document was supported by 56 PAS deputies.

The draft law, initiated by the deputies of the PAS faction, provides for amendments to the article of the Constitution regarding the state language.

In particular, instead of the word “Moldovan language” the phrase “Romanian language” will appear in the Constitution of the Republic of Moldova. The bill must comply with a 2013 ruling by the Constitutional Court, which ruled that the text of the Declaration of Independence takes precedence over the Constitution. In the Declaration of Independence, the state language is Romanian, writes deschide.md.

Thus, the phrase “Moldovan language, state language or official language” in any grammatical form in legislative acts will be replaced by the concept of “Romanian language” in the corresponding grammatical form. The text “works on the basis of Latin graphics” in Article 13 paragraph (1) of the Constitution of the Republic of Moldova is also recognized as obsolete.

  • “For the purpose of implementing this Law, within 30 days from the date of entry into force of this Law, the Agency of Legal Information shall ensure in the information system “State Register of Normative Legal Acts” that changes necessary for the purposes of this Law are made in all legislation of the Republic of Moldova, including the Constitution of the Republic of Moldova” , – the authors write.
  • The Romanian language as the state language and the restoration of the Latin alphabet are the first to be included in the list of “identity elements” of the state in the Declaration of Independence, as a result of which these elements were obviously considered important for defining the constitutional identity of the new state and its population, which is placed next to, for example, the flag , the coat of arms and the official name of the state, playing a key role in the system of values created by the declaration of independence of the Republic of Moldova,” says the information note of the project.
