Former priest Kristian Pomogaci, a popular music performer who was accused of attempting to sexually molest a teenager, became the main vehicle of the “Gelu Stan” Festival-competition dedicated to young popular music performers, an event organized by the Timiș County Center for Culture and Arts. The Timișoara County Council later announced that he would not be attending the event, News.ro reported.
“The Timiş County Council withdraws the artist Christian Pomogači from the festival-competition “Gelu Stan” 2023. The county institution does not participate in the selection of artists participating in the events of subordinate cultural institutions, but, as an exception, the controversial presence of the artist Christian Pomogači on the poster of the event and the invitation to participate in the Gelu Stan Contest Festival 2023 was carefully analyzed and it was decided to remove any association with the reputation of the above-mentioned artist,” – Timis. This was announced by the district council on Saturday.
The “Gelu Stan” festival-competition is being held for the 5th time and is dedicated to young performers of popular music who are starting their careers. The event is organized by the Timiş County Culture and Arts Centre, an institution under the Timiş County Council, which is also the financier of the festival.
Popular music artist Christian Pomogachi was accused of trying to sexually assault a teenager, but his actions went through a lawsuit, so he avoided a criminal record. Pomogachi, who was a priest, was canonized in 2017.
