Ranked 41st in the world, Stephens (the No. 2 favorite) lost to Italy’s Camila Giorgi (68 WTA) 6-0, 6-0 in just 47 minutes of play.
At the age of 29, Sloan won the US Open in 2017, and at Roland Garros she competed in the 2018 final (defeated by Simona Halep). The highest in the world ranking was 3rd place (July 16, 2018).
In the semi-finals, Giorgi will play against Czech Kateryna Siniakova (47 WTA, 4th seed).
Also in the quarters, Magda Lynette (21 WTA, main favorite) was defeated in two sets by Sweden’s Rebecca Peterson (140 WTA), score 6-2, 6-4.
