Thessaloniki: Nursing home officials stand trial for 28 coronavirus deaths in 2020

The heads of a nursing home in Thessaloniki, which experienced a flurry of Covid-19 cases in August 2020, have been taken to a joint jury for a probate that killed 28 elderly people. from complications associated with the coronavirus.

According to the will of the Council of Criminal Affairs of Thessaloniki, the charge with which they were brought before the court was violation of measures to prevent infectious diseases, resulting in the death of a large number of people (a criminal offense).

This was preceded by the intervention of the prosecutor’s office, after which an investigation was carried out by the competent audit body, the conclusion of which was sent to the prosecutor’s office of Thessaloniki and a criminal case was initiated. The conclusion on which the prosecution relied described a number of violations of measures to prevent the spread of coronavirus, such as an excessive number of prisoners, failure to maintain distance in nursing homes, failure to carry out test tests at regular intervals, etc.

The defendants, for their part, in their apology to the investigator denied the accusation, arguing, among other things, that they had taken all the measures provided for by the Joint Ministerial Decisions on the pandemic.
