The statement of the Russian Ministry of Defense about possible provocations by Ukraine in Transnistria is an element of a psychological operation, and not true intentions, commented on Thursday the State Secretary of the Ministry of Defense from Chisinau Valeriu Mia.
However, the official drew attention to the fact that the authorities of the Moldovan state should carefully monitor the situation and be vigilant.
“The population must realize that not only a classic war is taking place in Ukraine. One of the elements of this war is psychological operations. State institutions must be vigilant to monitor this topic,” State Secretary of the Ministry of Defense Valeriu Mia said on Radio Moldova, as quoted by news.ro.
At the same time, he drew attention to the fact that, although the Russian Federation is used to making such statements quite often, this is the first time such a warning has come from the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation.
“From a systems perspective, we’re watching to see the effect and how true the intentions and capabilities are. Obviously, we shouldn’t ignore them, but we shouldn’t be naive to see them as romantic elements. Therefore, we are vigilant and can take certain measures if this happens. But currently representatives of the Ministry of Defense believe that this is more an element of a psychological operation than real intentions. At the same time, we are closely monitoring,” the state secretary emphasized.

Russia accuses Ukraine of wanting to invade Transnistria
The Russian Defense Ministry said on Thursday morning that it had information that Ukrainians were preparing a provocation in Transnistria and were planning a false flag operation in which they would invade the separatist region in the guise of the Russian army.
In response, the Chisinau authorities said they did not confirm this information and called for calm.
The communique from Moscow was published on the day of the official visit of President Maia Sandu to Bucharest.
