The epidemiological situation in Europe due to corona virus is improving, said Marco Cavalleri, head of health threats and vaccination strategy. European Medicines Agency (EMA), adding that there has been a decline in infections, hospitalizations and deaths. At the same time, he stressed that close monitoring of the situation continues.

At the same time, as noted, COVID-19 continues to place a relative burden on health systems in Europe and has focused on the low use of booster doses by vulnerable populations such as those aged 60 and over.

Mr. Cavalleri added that there are countries such as China and Japan, where there is a high circulation of the virus and this is associated with a low level of immunity. Regarding the ChBB1.5 sub-variant, Marco Cavalleri noted that it is spreading very quickly but is currently at a low level in the EU, however it is expected to dominate the EU in the coming weeks.
