The governments of the Netherlands and Denmark have announced that neither country will supply Leopard-2 tanks, reports the German publication Welt.
Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte said that the only tanks that his country can theoretically supply are 18 Leopard-2 tanks leased to the country from Germany. Both countries decided that these tanks are not available to Ukraine, Kyiv Independent quotes.
The Danish government, which has 44 tanks in service, told Welt that it will not participate in Germany’s tank coalition. However, both the Netherlands and Denmark have allocated financial resources for the modernization of 100 Leopard-1 tanks, which are in German storage.
Finland has not yet promised tanks to Ukraine. Welt cited a recent Wall Street Journal article on February 9 in which a senior NATO official said Finland would likely not make such a commitment until it was granted membership.
Polish Defense Minister Mariusz Blaszczak said on February 14, after a meeting in Ramstein in Brussels, that work is underway to ensure the supply of tanks by Finland. “Today the minister (of defense) of Finland said that he is very close to making a decision,” Blaszczak added.
