A new video has surfaced on social media showing yet another “accident” of the Russian military, in which two state-of-the-art tanks malfunctioned after hitting a minefield one after the other.
The video was allegedly shot near the town of Vugledar in the Donetsk region, where the Russian army lost dozens of armored vehicles and tanks in a trap set by Ukrainian forces in the area in recent days.
Some of the bloodiest fighting of the war has recently taken place near the city, which is controlled by the Ukrainian army and is located at a strategic junction between the eastern and southern front lines, as Russian forces try to continue their offensive on the eastern Ukrainian front. .

The video shows how a “pair” of two T-80 tanks drive into a minefield, disabling it with powerful explosions. While such footage is nothing new, as the problem with Russian anti-tank mines has been confirmed by numerous footage that has emerged in recent months since the start of the Russian invasion, it is interesting for at least two reasons.
On the one hand, a second Russian tank is shown driving through a mine directly next to the first stopped vehicle, once again confirming that caution is not a strong point of the crews of Moscow’s armored vehicles. One possibility, however, is that this second tank was intended to rescue the crew of the first, as the video appears to have captured the second at around 00:15, when it might have survived.
However, the speed with which the second tank of the Russian army is moving seems to make this option less likely.
Mines are also a problem for modern Russian tanks
Secondly, the footage is also great because it shows the destruction of one of the most modern tanks at the disposal of the invasion forces, which were sent to Ukraine by Russian President Vladimir Putin on February 24 last year.
Although both are versions of the third-generation T-80 tank, which entered service with the Soviet armed forces in 1986, the T-80BVM and T-80BV models have been significantly upgraded in recent years to cope with modern combat conditions.
This is especially true of the T-80BVM, which is a newly upgraded version that includes an improved 125 mm gun, Relict dynamic armor, Reflex-M infrared-guided anti-tank missile system and targeting system. “Sosna-U” is also a T-90M tank, the most modern equipment of the Russian army.
And other systems of this tank model have been updated in recent years.
Rostec, the Russian arms company that carried out the upgrade, only disclosed the existence of the T-80BVM in 2019, saying that the first deliveries to the Russian military were made in 2017.
In August 2020, a new contract was signed for the supply of 50 such tanks to the Russian army, followed by another in August 2022. In September of last year, Rostec stated that deliveries were continuing.
