
The first Alstom train will arrive in the country in the summer of 2023 for testing, and the second will arrive a month later. The first train should be available for passengers in December 2023, according to the Authority for the Reform of Railways (ARF).
The trains are manufactured by Alstom at the factory in Katowice (Poland).
According to the contractual provisions, the first train will arrive at the Făurei Railway Test Center in July 2023 for dynamic tests, and the second will arrive in August 2023, mainly for tests on CFR lines, after According to ARF representatives, both trains will perform running tests several units.
Following the results of these tests, train #3 will be delivered to ARF to be put into service on the Romanian railway network in December 2023. According to the terms of the contract, the other trains are to enter commercial traffic from 2024.
Train No. 3 will be the first to enter commercial service. The first two trains are initially equipped for testing and will then be equipped for commercial use. The first route they will travel with passengers will probably be Bucharest – Constanta.
Long-distance electric trains will serve the following routes: Bucharest North – Constanta, Bucharest North – Brasov – Arad – Timisoara, Bucharest North – Brasov – Cluj, Bucharest North – Brasov – Deda – Cluj, Bucharest North – Brasov, Bucharest North – Iasi, Bucharest North – Suceava, North Bucharest – Galati, North Bucharest – Craiova – Tirgu Giu – Petrosani – Cimmeria, Bucharest – North Craiova – Timisoara – Arad, Cluj – Timisoara, Cluj – Suceava – Iasi.
The total value of the contract for the purchase of 37 electrical installations and related maintenance services for 15 years is 2.42 billion lei, excluding VAT.
The project is financed from non-refundable European funds and from the state budget.
The maximum speed of electric frames is 160 km/h, they consist of six cars (two end cars with driver’s cabins and four intermediate ones) and provide 351 seats.
