
Two aid trains consisting of munitions materials from the RescEU “Romanian ShelterCapacity (RO-Shelt)” stockpile, as a result of the activation of this program by the European Commission, will be sent from Bucharest to Turkey.
“The situation in Turkey requires the mobilization of some of these materials (…). The first train was loaded yesterday afternoon, the loading is finished today. It was supposed to leave tomorrow morning, but since we finished loading the first train earlier, it will leave (…) this evening, hoping that on Tuesday it will arrive at the depot that is being rescued by the Agency in Turkey,” said the head of the Emergency Management Agency, Raed Arafat, who was at the West Railway Station of Bucharest on Saturday evening on the occasion of the first aid train, reports Agerpres.
The official noted that the first train contains 1,200 tents, 8,000 beds, mattresses, pillows, linen and other materials. The difference of up to 2,000 tents and the rest of the materials will be sent by the second train.
“I want to emphasize the great efforts made by our colleagues from the IGSU, because if we did not have the IGSU involved in the implementation of the project, as well as in the loading operation (…), this train could leave in two or three days or four days and not now. (…) The people of Turkey and I are trying to do everything possible, because these materials are extremely necessary and must arrive very quickly,” Arafat said.
Romania will ensure the transportation from the territory of our country of several types of shelter products, which are in the rescEU reserve, within the framework of the Romanian ShelterCapacity (RO-Shelt) project as part of the international aid offered to Turkey, according to the decision adopted on Friday by the State Emergency Committee.
The Government’s statement stated that the NKNSU was approved in view of the strong earthquake caused on the territory of the Republic of Turkey on February 6, 2023, and taking into account the request addressed to Romania by the European Commission through the European Civil Agency. Protection mechanism (ECHO-ERCC) to provide Turkey from the rescEU reserve located on the territory of Romania, several types of products for shelter, taking into account the obligations of our country, as part of the Romanian ShelterCapacity (RO-Shelt) to demonstrate.
The government reminds that the Romanian ShelterCapacity (RO-Shelt) is an action of the European Commission, which aims to create rescEU temporary shelters that will be available for missions under the European Civil Protection Mechanism.
