
Last “farewell” to ND MP Manuso Volodakiswho died on Wednesday, February 8, at the age of 57 in the Athens hospital, where he was last hospitalized with serious health problems, Chania announced today.
The Exodus ceremony took place in the Holy Metropolitan Church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary.
In his funeral speech, Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis referred to the last time they were together on the island of Gavdos, as well as a message from Manousos Voloudakis when, for health reasons, he was unable to attend Mr. Mitsotakis’ tour to Heraklion.
“Today we say goodbye to a worthy deputy and scientist, a good partner and an exemplary family man,” the Prime Minister said. Addressing the wife and children of Manusos Volodakis, he noted: “They should be proud of you.”
Mr. Mitsotakis concluded his eulogy with the words of Nikos Kazantzakis from his latest book, Anifhoros: “This is the only way to save a life.”
Mourning speeches were made by the Metropolitan of Damascus, the Archbishop of Crete Eugene, Christos Homenidis, Olga Kefalogianni, the representative of the Union of Sfakians and the mayor of Chania Panagiotis Simandirakis.
After the end of the exodus, a procession was organized to the cemetery of Agios Loukas in Chania.
