Akis Dautis has been active since 1986 in a wide variety of musical genres, both on the Greek and international music scene. He has put his signature on the music of successful films such as “August fifteenth” Konstantinos Giannaris
Born in Athens, he began taking classical guitar lessons at a young age, thus introducing himself to classical music from an early age.
In 1979 he graduated from Athens College, and in 1980 he continued his studies in physical chemistry at Worcester College, Ohio, USA.
At the same time, he academically studied computers, mathematics and jazz theory, continuing classical guitar lessons with Andrey Mendzhukov. In 1984, he entered graduate school in physical chemistry at Ohio University while studying electronic music composition with Mark Phillips.
In 1986, he began working in the system of the Polytechnic Institute (UPIC) of Yannis Xenakis.
Career
His first personal project for the film “Crystal Forest” was made in the “Polyagogy” system of KSIME. This work has crystal sounds as a primary source and was presented in December 1986 at the French Institute in the presence of I. Xenakis.
The next composition “Solar Rain” was awarded international recognition at the 15th Electronic Music Festival in Bourges, France. In 1988, his work “Into the Light” was shortlisted by the International Committee for World Music Days in Hong Kong in 1988.
In addition to his work in the field of electronic music, he wrote music and songs in funk, rock and reggae styles.
He has also been known for his orchestrations in Greek discography, as well as writing music for theater, commercials, documentaries and cinema.
He belonged to the founding team of ESSIM and was a member of the Board of Directors. ESSIM and KSIME. From 2005 to 2011 he taught at the Film Department of the AUTH School of Fine Arts.
