High pressure from Scandinavia to Africa
The reason for the rapid deterioration of the weather will be atmospheric circulation over Europe in the coming days, where a field of increased pressure will develop from Northwest Africa to Scandinavia.
This phenomenon combined with low pressure in eastern and southeastern Europe will “push” cold air masses towards the Balkans and Greeceand small perturbations in the upper troposphere will contribute to significant snowfall in southeastern Greece.

How will the storm develop?
In particular, for the period from the evening of Saturday 02.04 to Tuesday 02.07, meteorologists predict:
– Significant drop in temperature, gradually, from Saturday evening from north to south, which will be felt throughout Greece until Sunday evening hours. Cooling will be 8-10 degrees, in places 10-12 degrees..
-Snowfall even at low altitudes (on the mainland and even in low-lying parts), in the eastern and southern parts of the country, mainly in Attica, Evia, Crete, Sporades, southeastern Thessaly, Boeotia, the Cyclades and the eastern Peloponnese.
– Temporary snowfalls in part of Thrace, on the islands of the north-east of the Aegean Sea and Halkidiki.
– Strengthening of northern winds up to 7-8 points, in some places up to 9 points on the Beaufort scale.
– Severe frosts in the north. In a number of areas there will be continuous frosts.
