The case opened by the prosecutors of the Prosecutor’s Office at the Court of Bucharest against the doctor Gheorghe Burnea, one of the most famous doctors in Romania, for causing bodily harm, was recently closed due to prescription according to Libertatea. The first intervention of an orthopedist, which resulted in physical injuries to a one-year-old girl, took place in 1998.
According to the prosecutors of the Prosecutor’s Office at the Bucharest Court, the statute of limitations in the case against Burney began 6 years ago.
Among the three cases in the file is the case of Amira Hamed, who was only one year old when Burney experimented with an unauthorized implant on the girl, according to Casei Jurnalistului, which wrote a series of articles in 2016 about the girl’s years of suffering after the famous orthopedist’s surgery.
Amira’s defense attorney says she will appeal the prosecutor’s decision, and the girl’s mother accuses the authorities of taking their time.
