He sends the three-member Autoforo Misdemeanor Tribunal’s decision to jail. Thessaloniki A 43-year-old man convicted of endangering his ex-partner’s life by becoming her “shadow”. The court sentenced him to 23 months in prison without the right to parole, while ruling that the appeal would have no suspensive effect on the execution of the sentence pending consideration by the Court of Appeal.
“He won’t let me leave the house. Every time he waits for me and attacks me…– said the 43-year-old ex-partner, who has repeatedly applied to the authorities with filing lawsuits against him. As she told the court, the defendant went so far as to scratch her car and leave a note on the windshield stating the life plan she would follow and the reasons he “allowed” her to leave the house.
“Home, sister, walk the dogs,” the 43-year-old woman wrote in a note that the plaintiff gave to the court. “Since the middle of last month I have been living under house arrest. He threatened to stab me, I am afraid and tremble before my shadow” the applicant described what she had experienced since she decided to end her relationship with him. He also expressed fear for her life and physical integrity.
In his apology, the 43-year-old accepted some of what his former partner complained about, explaining his actions with the love he feels for her, while admitting that he was wrong. “My love has brought me under her house. It was a moment because I found out that she was moving on in her life,” he said.
He was recently sentenced in absentia to 30 months’ imprisonment for similar acts against the applicant. Even then, the sentence was suspended, and the accused did not appear in court. But it seems that continued bullying did not stop him. This fact was also brought to the attention of the District Attorney in her appeal, and that is why, in addition to his conviction (for domestic endangerment and damage to foreign property), she recommended not to overturn the sentence and not to suspend the appeal, a proposal that was accepted by the court.
Addressing the accused, and before setting out on his journey to the prisons, the president of the court pointed out:The most important thing is to respect the decisions of our brothers.”
