Veterinarian Ovidiu Rosu of the ARCA Animal Rescue and Care Association, who coordinated the group of people who, after the tragedy in Lake Moriu, went in search of the dogs suspected of killing Ana Orosh, wrote a post on Facebook in which he claims that the only way out is still sterilization of animals with and without the owner.
Here is the text of the post:
“This is a message for animal lovers
Yes, the last few days have been awful. A man was killed by a pack of dogs in the middle of a field, and a bunch of other people, led by me, ran to catch those dogs.
In the first 2 days after the accident, I ran and coordinated more than 50 people (ASPA Bucharest, gendarmerie and police) in rain, frost, mud, canals, vegetation, bushes, ruins, garbage, from morning to night, on the surface on which my the phone estimated about 55 kilometers per step.
I didn’t want that. I had to do it. Technically, I would do it very differently, catching dogs. Quiet, without commotion, without outsiders, a maximum of 2-3 people. But how could anyone imagine that this was possible when dozens of television stations and government agencies were present and desperate for a “result”.
Together with two other colleagues with tranquilizers, we were able to safely put 7 dogs to sleep that we thought had attacked a person.
Police sampled each dog and all the dogs woke up and were handed over to the Bragadir shelter. Alive, unharmed, unharmed! I guarantee you that.
There are a few more to capture, but they too will be captured over time.
Why did I do that you may ask? Why didn’t I just stay home after spending a whole week chasing after dogs during several sterilization campaigns in the country? Why did I risk compromising my “reputation” in such misfortune?
“Answers” to these questions have already begun to arrive from all sides. That I went to the other side for money, that I play ASPA’s dirty games, that political interests and other things I didn’t even know I could get hold of. So…
I would like to be able to live with myself in trouble, intrigue and for money. It would be so simple and easy for me in the society we have built. However, let me tell you why I VOLUNTARILY got involved in this misery.
Because on Saturday at 10 o’clock, the deputy head of ASPA, a woman in the 8th month of pregnancy, with a trembling voice and hiccups, turned to me with a request for help to respond as best as possible to misfortune and what can harm all changes in well-being. spent the last years with animals in Bucharest.
Because in the nature of my profession I have been run over and bitten by packs of territorial dogs dozens of times and I KNOW it is not their fault or the other gentle dogs in this country that will suffer from this incident. Such is the nature of dogs that have to survive in the fields.
They don’t attack because they want to attack, they attack because they are trying to protect something. In this case, several chickens and the food source is a donkey carcass left to rot and/or be eaten.
I don’t think it’s the fault of the bitten person or biting animals. I think it’s an awful lot of events that are almost impossible to predict and stop at some level.
And because I experienced intensely and deeply the experience of the end of 2013, when due to an incident that led to the death of a child, to enormous social and media pressure, political decisions were made that led to the death and suffering of dozens of people. thousands of animals both in Bucharest and throughout the country. I repeat! I volunteered to help.
Without any reward or promise of advancement on any social scale. Only at the risk of compromising myself professionally in front of my employers, my staff and you who have been following my work for years. The 8 month pregnant woman I told you about even though she had every legal, physical and mental reason to quit this “company” and just send her teams over the phone to “hingherit” like the ASPA bosses used to do in the old days times was with us all the time in the field, in frost and rain, from morning to evening.
He coordinated his exemplary team, answered a flurry of questions from journalists, colleagues and superiors. It is difficult for me to imagine how anyone else could have handled this situation in a more humane, decent or professional manner. Well done Catalina!
I know many are calling for your resignation right now, but far more important than the job is that you are now living through one of those moments in life when a person’s character is truly formed. How you still manage to stay on your feet, you have all my respect.
Finally, now I found myself on another sterilization campaign, where I caught about 20 animals from the field for surgery, and my colleagues operated on more than 100 animals with and without owners since the beginning of the day. This struggle of ours must continue.
The sterilization of stray and stray dogs and cats must be the first and most important weapon with which we must fight to prevent all suffering.”
