
Bulgaria’s navy on Tuesday defused a mine drifting in the sea off its coast, after carrying out a controlled explosion to defuse another mine on Monday, the defense ministry in Sofia announced.
The Ministry of Defense in Sofia said that the Bulgarian fleet was alerted late Monday night by the crew of a motor boat sailing under the Ukrainian flag, writes News.ro. An explosive device was spotted approximately 14.8 nautical miles east of the coast, near Cape Cohan.
After Russia’s invasion of Ukraine on February 24, more areas of the Black Sea were mined.
Romania, Bulgaria and Turkey have special teams of divers who have defused several mines floating in their waters. Since the beginning of the war, Turkey, Romania, Bulgaria and Ukraine have destroyed approximately 40 mines in the waters of the western part of the Black Sea, Reuters reports.
