The Property Crime Unit of the Attica Security Directorate dismantled a criminal organization whose members were actively engaged in thefts from houses in various areas of Attica and Achaia.
During the operation, which was carried out on Sunday afternoon (22.01) and in the morning hours of Monday (23.01), three members of the organization (44, 30 and 26 years old), including the leader, were arrested.
A criminal case was initiated against them – individually – for a criminal organization that committed especially robberies, committed and attempted, through complicity and continuation, disobedience, as well as violations of the legislation on weapons and money laundering.
As it turned out as a result of a multi-month pre-investigation investigation, members of the organization, since at least September 2021, created and joined a criminal organization to commit burglaries and especially large-scale thefts from houses, mainly in Attica regions.
The arrested were the main core of the organization, but they took care of recruiting new members to use them in committing thefts – break-ins, during which they followed a certain methodology.
In more detail, taking the area of Zephyrio as their starting point, they located the outlying houses, which they entered from the balconies, having previously established that there were no people inside. Then they exported sums of money, valuables, jewelry, gold and everything else that could bring them financial gain.
During their action, each member of the organization took on a specific role.
In this context and to achieve its goal:
- 30-year-old (leader), coordinated the members of the organization and gave orders, while entering the houses many times, searched the premises, received information from the fireman and, together with other members of the group, took out valuables, money and objects,
- A 26-year-old man, a key member of the group and a relative of the leader, along with other members of the group broke balcony doors, entered houses and took out various valuables and objects, while
- The 44-year-old man had his car at the disposal of the group, even if he did not participate in the theft, and when he did, he always acted as the driver of the company car.
To cover up their criminal activities, they took special self-protection measures by wearing gloves when using headphones to talk to each other on the phone.
At the same time, they never gave their usual names, used pseudonyms and nicknames, often changed telephone connections and devices, and those that they used during thefts and in everyday life were mainly claimed for non-existent foreigners.
An indicator of their level of activity and organization is the use of a walkie-talkie, while it is noteworthy that both they and their families declared incomes less than their expenses, evaded filing tax returns, maintained a large number of vehicles and spent large sums. money for orders, rent, fuel and the purchase of vehicles.
During the searches conducted in Zephyri and Aspropyrgos with the assistance of the OPKE police officers, the following were found and seized:
- many watches, gold and jewels,
- a variety of mobile phones, SIM cards, laptops, electronic devices and slot machines,
- number of hacking tools,
