Two teenage girls from Romania told the BBC how they were approached on the social network when they were underage by brothers Andrew and Tristan Tate, who sent a standard message to girls who caught their eye. British millionaires, who are suspected of creating gangs, human trafficking and rape, remain in detention for another month.
One of the young women interviewed by the BBC is Daria, the daughter of Kozmin Gushi, who is currently studying in Great Britain.
Daria said she received a text message from Andrew Tate when she was just 16 years old, in which she only wrote “Romanian and strawberry emoji”.
“I was confused because I had (only) 200 followers and it was a private account. It was obvious that we were high school girls. I graduated high school and everything else on my profile.
It seems to me that he was just trying to find girls as innocent or naive as possible, in my opinion,” said Darya.
The Tate brothers are currently in pre-trial detention for 30 days in Romania while police investigate allegations of rape and human trafficking, which they both deny.
In a video posted by Andrew Tate, he appears to be teaching others how to approach women on social media using the same method used with Daria.
“In my experience, what really piques their interest and gets them to respond is asking them where they are. Sometimes, to get them interested, I put a completely unnecessary emoji at the end: a little cherry, orange or strawberry,” said Andrew Tate in a short video guide.
Accused of lying
Daria says many young people accused her of lying after she told the story of how Andrew Tate tried to set her up.
“Even guys I knew from high school called me a liar because I said I got a text from Andrew Tate once. But they don’t find anything strange in all the other accusations,” Daria Gusha told the BBC.
Gabriela (real name #) was 17 when Andrew Tate’s brother Tristan contacted her on social media, although she later claimed she was 19.
“I knew he used the same approach with other girls,” she said. “He always starts a conversation with the exact same phrase: You’re beautiful.”
Gabriela said her friend received the same standard message from Tristan Tate.
“A perfect example of conversation”
In his online video, Andrew Tate says that “you’re beautiful” is a good opening phrase, and goes on to provide what he describes as a “perfect example” of the conversation.
After finding a woman, Mr. Tate advises men to ask, “Why don’t I ever see you? Where are you hiding?”
“99% of them say they’re not hiding,” he says in the recording.
This is exactly what seems to have happened during the exchange with Gabriela.
In screenshots of what is believed to be her conversation with Tristan Tate, his next message is exactly as Andrew describes it: “I think I’ve seen you in town before. Maybe? Where did you hide?”
“It’s possible,” answered Gabriela, “I wasn’t hiding.”

Gabriela says Tristan Tate asked her out in his car and to a party, but she declined.
Screenshots of their messaging show that the conversation ended abruptly after she posted his video on social media.
“Important people will never write to you if they see you doing things like this. Just a friendly warning,” read one of his last messages.
Standard way of initiating contact
The Tate brothers did nothing illegal by contacting 16- or 17-year-old girls online or inviting them to town, but the testimony of these young women, along with the instructions provided by Andrew Tate online, suggest a prearranged method of initiating contact, writes BBC
The BBC has seen screenshots that appear to back up the claims of the two young women. The messages appear to be sent by people whose usernames match those used by Andrew and Tristan Tate before they were banned from the platform.
However, the BBC was unable to independently verify their authenticity or establish whether the messages were sent by Andrew and Tristan Tate themselves or by someone working on their behalf.
