The head of Chechnya, Ramzan Kadyrov, appealed to the head of the Russian State Duma, Vyacheslav Volodin, with a request to send to the front lines those who oppose the wearing of beards in the Russian armed forces, reports Lenta.

“Dear Vyacheslav Viktorovych, I am asking (…) in a friendly manner: send the guardians of order to the front lines. I understand age and all that, but politics shouldn’t be “senior-junior”. In politics – only the interests of the state,” Kadyrov wrote on his Telegram channel on Thursday at the end of a lengthy message in which he responded to the comment of deputy Viktor Sobolev.

Sobolev, 72, is a former lieutenant general of the Russian army, elected to the State Duma, the lower house of the Russian legislature, on the lists of the Communist Party.

When asked to comment on recent speculations on Russian social networks that the country’s military will be banned from wearing beards, Sobolev confirmed that this is stipulated by the statute of the armed forces and is “an elementary requirement of military discipline.”

“It seems that Lieutenant General Viktor Sobolev has a lot of free time at work, because he has nothing to do and is rereading the regulations. There were no problems in the ranks of our fighters who defend the Motherland from the neo-Nazis, and bam! Appeared! Barba!” Ramzan Kadyrov accused on Thursday.

“Sobolev knows perfectly well who and why wears a beard on the front lines. Therefore, I am sure that this is a clear challenge, which is designed to affect the morale of soldiers who wage a holy war for the sake of the Most High and wear beards only for the Most High, like our beloved prophet,” the leader of Chechnya added.

Beard, the cause of discord between Kadyrov and Russian netizens

“These people liberated Mariupol, Severodonetsk, Lysychansk and other cities, fulfilling all the tasks set by the headquarters. In our division, 99.9% [din militari] to wear a beard, to take care of it, to wear it according to the Sunnah (non-Islamic practice). And our fighters from the area of the special operation also take care of their beards,” Kadyrov said.

He added that disciplinary requirements will be relevant after the end of the “special operation”.

The leader of the so-called DNR, Denys Pusilin, on the other hand, denied the information that militants were forbidden to wear beards, saying that these rumors are spreading in Telegram channels and among military correspondents, but have no basis.

The spat between Kadyrov and Sobolev came after the Chechen leader engaged in a war of words on Tuesday with another Russian reserve general, Volodymyr Boldyrev, a former commander of Russia’s ground forces.

Just a day later, Kadyrov published a strange new video message on his Telegram channel, in which he allegedly implied that Russia would rather start a full-scale nuclear war than lose in Ukraine.

“We can press a button and… Salam Aleekum! (Peace to you!, no) As our president said: why do we need a world without Russia? Why should we live for these abominations, and not for us? So let’s all disappear. We will go to heaven, and they will go to hell,” Kadyrov said on the recording.
