Former world No. 3 Thiem suffered an emphatic 6-3, 6-4, 6-2 defeat to the fifth Grand Slam favorite in Melbourne.
Despite committing just 20 unforced errors (34 against Andrii), Dominik was unable to cope with the Russian’s attacking game (33 winning shots to the Austrian’s 19) and the match at John Cain Arena was over after two hours and 10 minutes .
Returning from a right wrist injury, Dominic did not achieve more notable results in 2022 and reached the 98th place in the ATP rankings.
