Dominic Thiem tried to return to the form that established him last year, but the game of the multiple Grand Slam finalist (he won the 2020 US Open) continues to suffer in many departments. The Austrian could not hold his own against Andriy Rublev and was eliminated from the 2023 Australian Open in the opening round.

Former world No. 3 Thiem suffered an emphatic 6-3, 6-4, 6-2 defeat to the fifth Grand Slam favorite in Melbourne.

Despite committing just 20 unforced errors (34 against Andrii), Dominik was unable to cope with the Russian’s attacking game (33 winning shots to the Austrian’s 19) and the match at John Cain Arena was over after two hours and 10 minutes .

Returning from a right wrist injury, Dominic did not achieve more notable results in 2022 and reached the 98th place in the ATP rankings.
