The heads of diplomacy of Turkey, Syria and Russia intend to meet in the second half of January, Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu said on Saturday in a new phase of rapprochement between Ankara and Damascus, AFP and Reuters reported.
The Turkish minister discussed the tripartite meeting in a telephone conversation with his Russian counterpart on Saturday, Turkish state broadcaster TRT Haber reported.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Moscow, during the conversation they discussed the situation in Syria.
As a sign of the normalization of relations between Ankara and Damascus, the Turkish defense minister and the head of Turkish intelligence held a meeting with their Syrian counterparts in Moscow on Wednesday, which was also attended by Russian officials.
It was the first government-level meeting between the two countries since 2011.
The Turkish government, which has strongly opposed the regime in Damascus since the start of the armed conflict in Syria almost 12 years ago, has for months signaled a change in its attitude, mentioning the possibility of restoring relations with the government of Bashar al-Assad. . (Agerpress)
