Russia and Ukraine exchanged prisoners of war shortly before the new year, DPA and Agerpres inform.
The head of the President’s Office in Kyiv, Andriy Yermak, said in a statement posted on Telegram that 140 soldiers have returned home.
The Russian news agency TASS reported that the Russian army had withdrawn 82 fighters.
No details were provided on when or where the exchange took place.
The returned Russians, mostly wounded fighters, were immediately sent to Moscow for further treatment, TASS reports.
Among the freed Ukrainians are eight women, as well as wounded and combatants from Mariupol. “Welcome home, our dear ones,” Yermak also wrote in Telegram.
