Pele’s fortune exceeds 100 million dollars

According to AS, citing Celebrity Net Worth, Pele’s fortune exceeds $100 million, with money amassed from football, real estate, advertising contracts, and movies.

For 19 years of work at Santos, “O Rey” received 15 million dollars. Having transferred to the New York Cosmos for two years, Pele collected another 13.5 million dollars (during this time he was the highest paid athlete in the world).

“I didn’t get rich from football, as it happens with current players. I made money from advertising after I stopped playing, but I never promoted tobacco, alcohol, politics or religion.” Pele said several times.

One of his biggest deals was buying a stately mansion in the Hamptons, New York, for $100,000, which he sold in 2008 for nearly $3 million.

Escape to victory, El Baron Otelo, Los Carteristas, Pedro Verguenza and This is Pele are films that brought money to the legendary football player. In addition, the Brazilian earned 11 million dollars thanks to the series Pelezinho (Little Pele).

In Brazil, Pele received a monthly pension of almost 3,000 reals, approximately 552 euros.

“I pay only half of the ticket to the cinema and do not pay for travel in public transport. After the 2014 World Cup, I will be fully retired.” Pele said in an interview with the Brazilian magazine Veja, which is quoted by Corriere della Sera.

Pele’s fortune will be shared by his wife Marcia Aoki and the football player’s six children (Sandra Machado died in 2006).
