The anti-smoking law is applied in almost all countries and is a key priority for ensuring the health of citizens. In our country, prioritizing the implementation of the anti-smoking law, the government has updated the law, introducing strict penalties and constant monitoring carried out by the relevant ministries with control mechanisms. To a very large extent, the implementation of the anti-tobacco law was successful in the field of public catering, where now, not only due to control, but also with a change in culture, the citizens themselves react to its non-compliance, and shops in the conservative majority make it clear that they will not tolerate and isolate those who smoke out of respect for other citizens.

The problem, however, remains with nighttime entertainment, especially after a certain amount of time has passed. There, unfortunately, some people literally smoke in the face of other people with complete disregard for the rights of everyone else. Unfortunately, the responsibility of the administrations of nightclubs in case of violation of the law is great, since they not only tolerate and do not prevent visitors from smoking cigarettes, but also immediately serve ashtrays, considering the non-application of the law for granted. If someone even lights a cigar, he hurries to offer the patron an appropriate long and narrow ashtray. Personally, I ended up in a famous nightclub, where two or three people went to smoke an hour later. As soon as I made it clear that the behavior was illegal, the store manager went over all the tables to say that they were not allowed to smoke because the Minister of Health was in the store.

That is a guilty attitude. It’s not that it’s forbidden and it goes without saying that they shouldn’t smoke, but we have a minister that we have to wait until he leaves. the club can have a level of control. Therefore, the responsibility lies with the administrations when they not only do not prevent, but also contribute to the violation of the law, ignoring even the justified protests of tobacco intolerant people. It’s really sad that many of those who commit illegal acts, once in a European city, don’t think about doing what they want to do in Greece. Because it’s very simple, even smokers who want to respect the law, when they see that someone is smoking next to them and store managers, instead of asking him to put out, bring him an ashtray, he will do the same.

In simple words, what we have achieved in almost 100% focus and take for granted, we will achieve in full application and in nightly entertainment. Controls will need to continue, fines will be imposed, and we will need to use every means to prove illegal activities. It’s enough? No, we need a reaction from all of us. It’s not nice to ask the store management to comply with the law, and it’s certainly not a shame to demand that everyone who wants to smoke go outside,” Mr. Plyuris says in his post.
