Poland will acquire two French surveillance and intelligence satellites and a ground data center, the defense and army ministers of the two countries announced in Warsaw on Tuesday, AFP reported.

The contract, which will be completed by 2027, covers two Pleiades Neo spacecraft, developed by Airbus Defense and Space, which are high-resolution Earth observation satellites.

According to the office of French Armed Forces Minister Sébastien Lecornu, the cost of this project is estimated at around 500 million euros.

Until then, Poland, a member of the EU and NATO, will have access to the data provided by the current group of French satellites.

“Starting from 2027, we will have two satellites in the colors of Poland,” said Polish Minister Mariusz Blaszczak, stressing that the new system can be used “for both military and civilian purposes.”

The contract “contributes to Poland’s strategic autonomy in terms of surveillance and situational awareness,” said Lecornu, the first French armed forces minister to visit Poland in more than six years after the Polish nationalist government canceled a deal to buy 50 Caracal helicopters.
