Baron PSD de Giurgiu sent to the DNA court after a lightning investigation

Nikulae Badelau was sent to court for bribery and influence peddling in a case in which he is accused of offering a 170,000 euro bribe to the mayor of Giurgiu County in exchange for public works contracts.

According to the DNA press release, the anti-corruption prosecutors ordered the pre-trial detention of Niculae Badelau, who at the time of the events was the advisor to the accountants of the Chamber of Accounts of Romania and the vice-president of the control and audit body in the same institution for abuse of influence and bribery in a long form and representative of a commercial company for complicity in bribery. Sources in the court said that Elena Matache, a representative of the company involved in the case, was sent to the court together with Nicolae Bedeleu.

Anti-corruption prosecutors note in the indictment that on August 9 and November 19, Nikulae Badalau, performing the mentioned position, demanded from the mayor of the commune to conclude a certain contract with a company managed by a relative of the defendant. The contract concerned “Reconstruction of the drinking water supply system”, estimated at 7,071,925 lei without VAT.

“In exchange for this ‘service’, the defendant allegedly promised to identify a person from the management of the National Investment Company (NIC), whom he made it clear that he had influence, to secure the financing of two projects. provided to this institution, respectively, by the mayor’s office,” the investigators say.

In the period 2021-2022, DNA reports, in the context of the implementation of the contract that the same municipality concluded with the same commercial company, regarding “Installation of the water supply network…”, Niculae Bădălău, through another person investigated in this case, offered the mayor several sums of money so that he, in return, continues to pay the relevant company, even for non-compliant works.

“In the same context, on November 19, Nikulae Badelau promised the mayor to transfer 7% (170,000 euros) of the value of the contract mentioned above, as well as the future contract he sought to obtain. for the same company, from the relevant city hall. Later, on November 25, 2022, through the same entrepreneur, the defendant Nikulae Bedalau would transfer 35,000 lei to the mayor, which was part of the amount of money promised in connection with the current contract,” the anti-corruption prosecutors said.

According to the same judicial sources, the mayor to whom Nikulae Bedalau allegedly offered a bribe is Dan Pasat, a former PNL deputy who was sentenced to three years in prison in 2013 for blackmail.

Dan Pasat is the applicant witness in the case. It was he who reported on Badelau in DNA.

The case was sent for consideration to the court of Giurgiu with a proposal to keep in force the preventive and insurance measures prescribed in the case.
