On December 19, the head of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Valery Zaluzhnyi, asked President Volodymyr Zelenskyi to sign a law that provides for increased legal responsibility for actions such as desertion, desertion, and disobedience to military orders, Kyiv Independent reports.

According to Zaluzhny, the current loopholes in the law, which allow only fines or suspended sentences, are unfair and contribute to the loss of front-line personnel, territory and the civilian population.

“Open areas of the front are forced to cover other military personnel, which leads to increased losses of personnel, territories and civilians on them. Often, lost positions have to be regained with the help of attacks, which have a very high cost,” Zaluzhny noted in a video on Facebook.

Zaluzhnyi called on President Volodymyr Zelenskyi to sign a law on solving these issues, noting that military discipline is valuable, and the proposed solution reflects the point of view of unit commanders.
